Bridger is such a good baby, he is very mellow and mostly just sleeps and eats. He only ever cries when he gets his diaper changed. What more could a mom ask for? The only bad thing is that Bridger is just like his dad and is a night owl - he apparently has his days and nights mixed up. The only time he is really awake is between the hours of 10pm and 3am. Which has not been my problem because that is Daddy's shift.
So last night Chad and I decided to be the boss of the kid and try and force him to sleep at night. We feed him and put him in his bed at 9pm and he went right to sleep. He woke up a couple times and cried for a bit. We were determined to let him fuss through it and fall asleep. He consoled himself and fell asleep the first time in about 5 min. Then he woke up about 30 min later and went through the whole fuss and crying bit again until he fell asleep. This went on for about 2 hours where he would fuss for 5 min, then sleep for 30 then start all over again.
By midnight, I was ready to die of exhaustion. I feed Bridger and he fussed for 5 min and then went back to sleep. He then woke up at 2:30 to eat again and it was Chad's turn. Apparently Chad could not get the baby to sleep again until about 4am.
Needless to say Mom and Dad are both grumpy today due to lack of sleep. To top of the grumpiness we had to go to the Social Security office to get Bridger's social security card fixed.
Two days ago, we got a letter in the mail from the Social Security Office and it was addressed to Bridger David Harris - the mail man had put a big question mark on it. When we opened the letter sure enough someone had screwed up, because last time I checked our last name was Jones and not Harris, nor had I been sleeping around with someone with the last name of Harris.
So today was dedicated to getting the card fixed. We arrived at the social security office and after waiting in a long line, were told we needed the Birth Certificate and medical records from the hospital showing Bridger's birth day and both parents names. So we went out to the hospital and sure enough the lady who helped us was the one who data enters all the forms into the computer and she screwed up. The data she enters feeds the Social Security card as well as the Birth certificate. She had to make the change from Harris to Jones. Once she made that change we had to go get Bridger's Birth Certificate and then back to the Social Security Office.
Hopefully all is well now and Bridger will now be a Jones!
What a day! Not the way I wanted to spend my day that is for sure!
If anyone has ideas on how to get the kid to sleep at night and be awake during normal hours - we would appreciate some helpful hints.

What a pain with the social security card!!! So, it may take some time for him to get his days and nights figured out. The best way to help him is to keep him awake more during the day so he's more tired at night. Oh the joys of a newborn and sleepless nights. I need to remember those nights when I get an itch to have another one!! I need to come hold that little guy...when can I come over?
Here is my opinion....He is still so new and still shocked by his new world. He spent 9 months in your womb awake at night because you weren't jostling him around...he slept during the day because you were moving around and you wre rocking him all day long. Give him a couple of months to adjust to the dayshift. It would take us a while to get used to working the nightshift if we had to. When he can eat all the required amount during the daytime hours, he's not sick, or didn't get a shot recently, or isn't going through a growth phase, or any other unordinary thing and you sense he is waking up out of habit...that's when I would do the "let him fuss thing". This was the hardest time for me (the sleepless thing)...but then comes that cute smile at 3 months that you know was meant just for you, and it give you hope that things will be normal again one day. Even if he was the most perfect sleeper..you'd probably be up checking on him anyways...so the sleepless nights don't really end..you just adjust to it and hope that both of you can find a happy medium. This is just my opinion and you asked. Love you Jen!
