Hunter Wayne Jones

Son of Jeanette and Chad Jones was born at 11:44pm on November 25th 2008. He weighed 1lb 1oz and he was 11 inches long.

As most of you know our little guy came much sooner than we had ever hoped, he was perfect and beautiful in everyway from his little fingernails to his little toenails, he was just too small to survive at this time. We had just made it to 22 weeks and 1 day of gestation. He was larger and taller than all of the ultrasounds had indicated.

Mom and Dad Jones where able to see him Wednesday evening and mom says he has my nose and Jeanette’s lips.

After a very traumatic Saturday early afternoon Jeanette arrived at the Jordan Valley Hospital with unexplained bleeding. I unfortunately was working at Snowbird all day and did not know what was going on. Jeanette had called me several times, after lunch time, and I had missed all of them. Just as I was calling her to tell her I was coming home she called me from the hospital.

I rushed to her straight from working at Snowbird. When I arrived at the hospital she was in the Triage room in the Women’s center, she was receiving ultrasounds and was bleeding and having contractions.

I called Josh just as she admitted to the hospital and was placed into her own room while we were waiting for ultrasound results. I asked Josh if he could come up to help me give Jeanette a blessing. Josh rushed up right away, Josh left in the second half of the UT-BYU game to come up to help us.

We gave Jeanette a blessing and her contractions immediately stopped and bleeding was reduced.

Thank you so much Josh!

She remained stable and Hunter's heartbeat remained stable and consistent until mid morning Tuesday. Because of the effects of the medications Jeanette’s bowels were not working and were giving her severe abdominable pains. After several hours of her struggling, the doctor prescribed a solution to her abdominable troubles. They carried a risk of triggering her contractions again but they fortunately worked and her abdominable problems had been resolved. She got a couple hours of good rest and sleep but had not been able to eat much all day.

Jeanette was sleeping well, all seemed fine, our plan was to spend two weeks at the Hospital with strict bed rest, then transfer her to the UofU NICU or to primary children’s Hospital when she had made it to 24 weeks when the baby would have a better chance to survive, but hoping to go as long as possible before delivering.

At about 6:30pm Jeanette awoke abruptly from sleep in a severe fever, she was shaking very seriously. The attending nurse immediately took a urine sample for testing and called our Doctor. They took blood samples for testing. Jeanette’s fever rapidly rose in a half hour from 99.3 to 102.8. The lab test showed she had an infection in her uterus and so they took dramatic measures and major antibiotics to stop the infection.

At that point it looked like we would lose the baby just from the infection, Jeanette's OB/GYN Dr. Tweed was on vacation but called us and talked to us about the situation and the dangers that Jeanette was facing. Dr. Tweed called Dr. Smith to attend to Jeanette. At this time things were very scary for us and Jeanette's long-term health and life where at risk.

About 9pm Jeanette was given medications to start labor, at 11:15pm Jeanette went into labor it lasted about half an hour. Our little guy was born at 11:44pm. The effects of the fever had taken a toll on our little guy, his spirit had already gone to heaven before he was born.

This was and still is a heartbreaking event for us!

I had been aware of and been a member and Photographer of the
"Now I Lay Me Down To Sleep" or nilmdts.org

http://www.nowilaymedowntosleep.org

But since Jeanette and I got married last year I withdrew my membership so that we could spend time together. The organization was fairly new and last fall to this year they had re-organized to better serve the public. Please go to there website listed above and let all your friends and family know about it. Donate to the cause if you can.

We had the hospital call our NILMDTS photographer so that she could come take pictures of Hunter. I was able to put a little blue stocking cap and bundle him up with some little blankets. Jeanette and I got to hold him for about an hour or so while the photographer took pictures. I really believe in this organization, but never dreamed that I would be using its services for us.

We will need time together to go through the Grieving process. It won't be easy, but we will get through it.

We appreciate everyone’s care and concern and fasting and prayers for us during this time.

There's a whale on the beach. . .

So as most of you know, it is almost Thanksgiving time which is my favorite time of the year because we get to spend a whole week at the beach in California with all my family. It is something I look forward to the day we are heading home from the current year. We are only 11 days away until we leave and needless to say I am estatic!

This year is going to be interesting since I am pregnant and will have to sleep in a tent(like always), normally I don't mind but sleeping has become more difficult since I can't sleep on my stomach or my back(like always).

So yesterday I was on the phone with my mother and I was trying to convince her to bring the twin mattresses to the beach for me and my sister in law to sleep on. I was giving her the wo is me that I can't sleep well and that I need it to sleep, trying to guilt her into bringing them. Well she says you are hardly showing you should be sleeping fine – I said have you seen my picture? She said no, but that is not all baby you know! She said just wait until the baby actually gets big and is kicking you in the ribs etc. Rude! Hello I think she just full on called me fatty fatty two by four! Like I don’t know that I have a nice layer of fat covering over the baby! I am quite aware thank you very much! Doesn’t she know you are not suppose to call a pregnant woman fat? Especially the one who is caring her long awaited grandchild? She is FIRED!!! She is going to pay for that comment! For that I am going to either limit visiting rights, make up some horrible granny name to call her, or something. I just need to figure that one out!

Half way there. . .

I looked at myself in the mirror today and I am not sure what happened but my belly seems to have grown astronomically overnight! I have gone back and forth as to whether or not I would post pictures of my fat state, but figured I might as well. So here is the picture of the baby belly at 20 weeks.

Crying, Fingernails and Placenta

Ok first off, no one ever told me that there would be so many freakish things happen to me during pregnancy. Why doesn’t someone write a book called “101 freakish things that happen to you while pregnant”?

1. Uncontrollable Crying. So last week I had an episode that I would like to forget but just can’t. I was at work corresponding with a coworker on the correct way to fill out his timecard. Well out of no where I get this nasty gram from the HR manager telling me to stop communicating with him and that I am giving him the wrong information! I knew I was right but she was being a nasty witch and had a stick stuck somewhere! Anyway I responded to her saying your assistant told me to tell him what I told him. Then out of no where I started crying at work – I was all what the heck is going on. I tried to stop but couldn’t. The more I told myself you are being stupid for crying and to stop the harder I would cry. I had completely lost it so I had to go home because I could not be seen at work having a complete breakdown. On the drive home I could hardly see because I was crying so hard. When I walk in the door at 11am and I am sobbing my eyes out – Chad was freaking out of course and asked what was wrong – I said nothing, I just can’t stop crying. I cried myself to sleep and felt much better when I woke.

2. Fingernails fit for Genius Book of World Records. Last year one of my coworkers was pregnant and she would clip her fingernails at work everyday. I could not hear it myself, but my coworker who sat next to her, would come running to my desk to get away from the noise. Fingernail clipping was like fingernails on the chalk board to him. He hated the noise more than anything. He would sit at my desk until she was done every day. Now I know why she would clip her nails everyday – my finger nails are so long that I can hardly type – I seriously want to call the Genius Book of World Records. Here is a picture of my fingernails (I know you are thinking man Jeanette has really greyed lately!)

3. Uncontrollable Gagging. The nausea has left along with the first trimester, but what came next is much worse. I can hardly brush my teeth without having a complete gag fest and then ending up over the toilet with the dry heaves, just wishing I would throw up. Almost anything can set off the gagging. If I laugh too much, if I sneeze too many times, if I smell something, if I try to swallow a pill, the list can go on for days! It is no fun at all. I hate gagging!

4. Placenta. I know that every woman can’t wait to bond with her unborn child and long for when the child is born so that the bonding can begin. Well I just read something so freaky that I don’t even know what to think. Mothers do weird things to bond with their babies. Take a cast of your pregnant belly and give it to your midwife. Hold small replicas of a fetus so that you can bond with it. Watch 3-D video of your child so that you can bond with the baby. Keep the placenta after you have given birth and cut it open and spread it on a canvas so that you can have a lovely print of your placenta. Keep your placenta in the freezer so that you can someday plant it by a tree so that your child can bond with the tree. Call me crazy, but I don’t care ever to see my placenta let alone to cut it open or freeze it. I know that there will be plenty of bonding time with the baby once he comes. I will save the bonding time for once he arrives! My friend sent me this website -
